How to Connect and Move Files to OneDrive

OneDrive is Microsoft’s cloud-based file storage and synchronization service. It lets you store files and photos online, access them from any device (PC, Mac, iOS, or Android), and share them with others. You also get features like real-time collaboration on Office documents and automatic backups.

All faculty, staff, and students have access to 1 TB of space on their MCC OneDrive accounts.  

Instructions

 

How to Connect to OneDrive

1. Search for OneDrive using the task bar’s search box. Click Open.

2. Enter your MCC email address, click Sign in.

3. Note the location of your OneDrive folder, click Next on the Set up your OneDrive folder box.

4. Click Start backup on the Back up folders on this PC box.

5. Click Next in the Move files into your OneDrive Folder box.

6. Click Next in the Collaborate with others box.

7. Click Next in the Your files, when you need them box.

8. Click Not now on the Get the mobile app box.

9. Click Open my OneDrive folder.

10. After clicking Open my OneDrive folder, you will now see it displayed in your File Explorer. 

 

Method 1: Using File Explorer (Drag and Drop)

This is the easiest way to move multiple files at once.

1. Open File Explorer (Win + E).

2. Locate the OneDrive - Metropolitan Community College folder in the navigation pane on the left.

3. Open a separate File Explorer window and navigate to the local files on your computer.

4. Drag and drop the files or folders you would like to save into your OneDrive folder.

 

Method 2: Backing Up Desktop, Documents, and Pictures 

If OneDrive is currently running on your computer:

1. Click on the OneDrive icon in your system tray, then click the Settings icon. 

2. In the Settings menu, select Settings

3. Click Manage backup.

4. Ensure the buttons next to Documents, Pictures, and Desktops are in the on position. Click Save changes

5. When your files finish syncing to OneDrive, they’re backed up and you can access them from anywhere in Documents, Desktop, or Pictures. When you back up your Desktop folder, the items on your desktop roam with you to your other PC desktops where you’re running OneDrive.

NOTEAny others files can be backed up by manually copying the files and/or folders to your OneDrive folder.

You can back up a maximum of 1 TB with your MCC Microsoft 365 subscription.

 

Method 3: In-App "Save As"

If you are currently working on a file in an app like Microsoft Word, you can save it directly to the cloud.

1. Go to File > Save As.

2. Choose UserName - Metropolitan Community College as your location.

3. Select the specific folder and click Save
