Problem
Reports from students indicating that a YubiKey for MFA was inserted into a laptop running Wyse or IGEL Thin Client, the laptop appears to hang or time out.
Description
ITS has purchased different models of YubiKeys over time. The documented process to re-set YubiKeys needed updated to ensure that only FIDO/FIDO2 protocol is configured on MCC YubiKeys. Security Key (USB A/C) both only functions using FIDO/FIDO2 protocol. NVC keys on the other hand have multiple authentication protocols available. This is not compatible with IGEL thin clients.
Resolution
- Departments distributing YubiKeys need to instruct Fob holders that they must set a new PIN when setting up YubiKey. If they do not, they should go to one of the ITS Help Desks in person to get a PIN reset and test.
- YubiKeys are not compatible with IGEL devices. The older technology does not recognize YubiKeys.
