Issues with Respondus LockDown Browser for Students

Problem

General issues when trying to use the Respondus LockDown browser Canvas add-in.

Resolution

When you encounter issues with LockDown Browser, the best way to handle it is to completely uninstall it and start all over again. This sequence of events usually solves any issue:

  1. Uninstall Respondus LockDown Browser completely.
  2. Delete any previously downloaded installation packages for LockDown Browser.
  3. In Canvas, go to the course and exam that require Respondus LockDown Browser and use the link provided to download a fresh installation package.
  4. In your computer, go to the directory where the installation package was downloaded and launch it. As you go through the installation process, at any point that the installer is asking for permissions on your computer, please grant them.
  5. Once installation is complete, launch Respondus LockDown Browser on your computer.
  6. Respond yes when asked about closing other programs on your computer and then login using your school credentials.
  7. Navigate to the course and test that requires LockDown Browser and begin taking the test.
