Disable Automatic Teams Meetings (Mac/PC)

Summary

Outlook client (MacOS or Windows) defaults all meeting invitations to MS Teams, virtual meetings. Instructions provided on how to disable this feature, made default in 2024.

Body

Description

When creating a new meeting invitation in either Outlook client or Outlook online, the new meeting defaults to a MS Teams virtual meeting. This behavior became standard for both Mac and PC versions with an Office 2024 update.  Follow the instructions below if you would like to change this behavior to non-Teams meetings, by default.

Instructions

Steps differ slightly between Operating Systems.  Follow the instructions for PC or Mac OS.

Disable Default Teams Meeting - Office 365 (Outlook Online)
  1. Using a web browser, navigate to https://myapps.mccneb.edu with your MCC ID and password and select the "Microsoft Office 365 Mail" tile.
  2. With Outlook open, click the "Settings" gear in the top right portion of the Outlook menu bar.
  3. From the Settings panel, click "Calendar".  If Calendar is not visible, use the "Search settings" box to locate the feature.
  4. From Calendar, select "Events and invitations".
  5. Under Events and invitations, un-check "add online meeting to all meetings"
  6. Changes are saved automatically to prevent MS Teams meetings from being automatically created to your calendar invites by default.
Disable Default Teams Meeting - Outlook for MacOS
  1. On your computer, open Outlook for Mac from either the desktop or Applications folder.
  2. From the Main menu bar, click "Outlook" (top-left). Select "Settings".
  3. Under Preferences, click the "Calendar" option to launch Calendar Settings.
  4. Under "Calendar Options", select Configure... to "Add online meetings to all events."
  5. Un-check the box that reads "Add online meetings to all meetings", to prevent MS Teams meetings from automatically adding to calendar invites by default.

Disable Default Teams Meeting - Outlook for Windows

System changes to the MCC Office 365 environment no longer require any configuration changes to Outlook for Windows. After completing the change in Office 365, the behavior will cease.
