Restore Canvas Access

Error Message

Attempt to sign-in to Canvas, Okta warning indicates "Unable to sign in".

Description

When a student is hired by MCC, Human Resources changes the status to employee in the employee tracking system (Workday).  The student information system (Colleague) system then shows the student with an employee email: username@mccneb.edu.

Resolution

Colleague populates the new employee email address to Canvas at the beginning of the school quarter.  After the onboarding process, the employee email address in Colleague (@mccneb.edu) no longer matches what the student, now employee, was using in Canvas (@mail.mccneb.edu).  The process to correct this data mismatch is automated.  The Canvas login will automatically update 3 hours after the Colleague email change.

A note about email display in the Outlook/Outlook 365 Global Address List

  • Office 365 Global Address List will continue to show the student with a student email address: username@mail.mccneb.edu
  • To correct this, the employee's Supervisor needs to submit a Technology Activation Request Form in the Forms Bank to request an employee email for the student worker.  This request will result in Office 365 being updated to an employee email address (username@mccneb.edu).  The student will not lose any email from this change and will not need a new password username@mccneb.edu.
